Blank white screen, or a payment or account problem?

This usually happens when you are signed in to several Google accounts in the same browser. Sign out of your other Google accounts, or open Google Sheets in a different browser (or a private window) signed in to just one account, then try again.

Troubleshooting

A formula shows an error asking me to follow instructions

The add-on could not identify your Google account. Open Extensions → FINANCE for Yahoo → My Account once in the spreadsheet, then reload the sheet. If you use several Google accounts, follow the tip above.

The formula says my free trial has ended

Subscribe from Extensions → FINANCE for Yahoo → Upgrade to Premium. Your formulas start returning data again straight away.

A ticker returns no data

Check the symbol on finance.yahoo.com. Yahoo uses suffixes for many non-US listings (for example SHOP.TO, VOD.L), =X for currency pairs (EURUSD=X), =F for futures (GC=F), and ^ for indices (^GSPC). Use =FINANCE_SEARCH("name") to find the right symbol.

Some attributes are empty

Yahoo Finance doesn't publish every field for every security. For example, ETFs have no ESG scores and currencies have no market cap. Empty cells mean Yahoo returned no value.

Refreshing and optimization

Google Sheets caches the results of custom functions and recalculates them on its own schedule. These tips keep your sheets fast and current:

Batch your quotes. One =FINANCE_QUOTES(A2:A51) call replaces 50 separate =FINANCE calls and is much faster.
Ask only for what you need. "regularMarketPrice,marketCap" is faster than "*.*".
Force a refresh. Formulas recalculate when their inputs change. Add an extra argument tied to a cell you can change (for example a checkbox or a timestamp), or edit and re-enter the formula.
